ABOUT CET
CET ULB offers Czech language, culture, and literature courses for ULB students and the general public. In addition to educational activities, CET also focuses on research, literary translation, and organizing various cultural events and projects to introduce Czech culture to the Belgian audience.
CET THEN AND NOW
1997
The decision to establish the Centre d’Études Tchèques (CET) at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) was made in 1997. An agreement between the Czech and Belgian Ministries of Education and their respective universities facilitated this project. The University of Brussels provided suitable premises, and the Faculty of Arts at Charles University sent qualified teachers of the Czech language, literature, and culture to Belgium.
2009
Professor Jan Rubeš, a translator and historian, became the first director of CET.
During the first decade, the Czech language teaching position was subsidized directly by the Czech Ministry of Education. Since 2009, it has been affiliated with the lectureships managed by the DZS agency.
